BIBLICAL COUNSELING

WHY BIBLICAL COUNSELING?

Biblical counseling is from the belief in the sufficiency of Scripture:

2 Peter 1:3-6

"His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.  For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness..."

God has given us everything we need to deal with all of life and its problems.  God calls us to bear one another's burdens, and counseling is an extension of that calling.  Biblical counseling uses God's Word, by the Holy Spirit, to help change desires, behaviors, and attitudes to live a life that is pleasing and glorifying to God.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.  Is there a fee for counseling?

Yes

2.  Is there any difference between Biblical Counseling and psychological counseling?

Jesus Christ is at the center of all true Christian counseling.  Any counseling which moves Christ from the position of centrality has to the extent that it has done so ceases to be Biblical.

3.  Do you ever refer people to psychologists or psychiatrists for help?

The Bible is a sufficient source of wisdom to inform these conversations such that the resources of secular psychology are completely unnecessary to those who wish to accomplish counseling success.  This does not mean that secular psychologists never say anything true or helpful.  It means that their findings are not necessary for counseling faithfulness, and that, when their findings appose the Christian worldview, they are often at odds with counseling faithfulness.

4.  What issues can Biblical Counseling address?

The Bible addresses a wide variety of issues and speaks to the full human condition and therefore, Biblical Counseling applies to our contemporary struggles.  The issues we address include, but are not limited to, the following: addictions, anger, anxiety, depression, grief, guilt, and marital issues.
