Obeying Christ Is an Act of Love

The writer of Hebrews ends the epistle with a whole host of commands: Let brotherly love continue (v. 1); show hospitality (v. 2); honor marriage as holy (v. 4); keep your life free from love of money (v. 5); remember your leaders (v. 6). It is interesting that all these commands and there are more in the chapter, come at the end. Why? So much of this letter has been about how Christ is supreme. And that is, I believe the point. Because Jesus is supreme, followers of Christ are called to obey Him! It is no “moralism” to seek to obey Jesus. Rather, it is act of love to obey Christ and to serve Him. Let us strive, by His grace, to obey Christ, because Jesus indeed is better!
